Hair as Therapy - How Taking Care of Your Hair Can Transform Your Mood

Now if I’m going to be fully transparent, sometimes even I have my moments where I couldn’t care less. I’ll fall asleep while sporting a top knot, wear my hair in a bun tight enough to give me a facelift, or simply forget to treat my hair with care.

I’ll also admit that when I’m being careless and not putting any mind into taking care of my hair, it leaves me feeling not so great. This obviously goes beyond hair - it translates into every other thing like keeping a healthy diet, getting your exercise and washing your face.

It’s not surprise that self care encourages such an improvement in your mood and happiness. I mean, I’ve never been seen crying after leaving a spa after a hydrafacial and with a fresh set of french tips. Little practices of taking care of yourself all add up to one thing - ONE CONFIDENT M**F***.

While we have the obvious hair care methods, I’ll leave you with a few small haircare practices that will not only leave your hair thanking you but will leave you feeling totally fabulous.

Hair Serums - You know that feeling of applying a serum to your face after a wash and before a moisturizer? It’s that extra self-care practice of taking care of your skin. Well, there are serums for your hair as well! It’s that extra ‘something’ that can target your hair concerns from the inside out.

My favourites: If you’re looking for a serum for your hair that can work while you sleep, I’ve got the perfect recommendation for you! ↓

Aveda Botanical Repair Strengthening Overnight Serum builds the bonds in your hair, repairs and reduces the appearance of split ends - all while you sleep! Pair this will a silk pillowcase for the ultimate sleeping haircare duo! You’ll wake up with hair that isn’t staticky, is smooth and silky, and easier to style.

Hair oils - I’m always going to push a good hair oil - it’s a great way to add moisture to your hair (especially in the winter months). But one of my favourites tips to make this a little extra special is to spray my favourite perfume on my hairbrush before brushing my hair oil through my hair. The perfume will cling to the hair oil and last all day long. I always feel my best when I know I’m smelling totally fabulous.

My favourite hair-perfuming duo:

Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil is a light hair oil that is applied to the hair and deeply conditions, strengthens and smooths. Not to mention, smells AMAZING.

Oribe Desertland Eau de Parfum is by far my favourite fragrance from Oribe - it will last on my skin/hair for hours!

Weekly blowouts - Sometimes we’re busy and don’t have the time or energy to style our hair. The solution? Treat yourself to a weekly or bi-weekly blowout at your hair salon for not only a nice hairstyle for the week, but also some well-deserved me time. I have no doubt in my mind that this would take a little off of your plate, and add some value to your week.

All in all, a little self care goes a long way for anyone. By prioritizing taking care of yourself and your hair, you create a healthier, more balanced emotional state. Not to mention, you’ll be FAB. Trust me.

Until next time!

Kay xx
